Boundaries
I didn’t exactly expect this…
When I first started my business, I was 24/7 HUSTLING. Sending cold pitch emails, responding to questions and inquiries within seconds, and taking on any work I could. I mean of course right? If I wanted to quit the soul-sucking reality of my corporate 9-5, I HAD to make this work. And then I did quit the soul-sucking reality of my corporate 9-5, and I kept hustling. I mean of course right? If I wanted to replace (and exceed) my old salary, I HAD to keep it up.
But do you see where this is going?
Yeah, exactly…
There will ALWAYS be a reason to hustle. There will ALWAYS be a new milestone to hit and even though you’re ecstatic that you hit the last one, all of a sudden you feel behind in hitting the next one.
Ah, the life of an entrepreneur.
Anyway, a couple of months ago, a little voice in the back of my head said, “Pssst. Sarah. This isn’t sustainable.” So, I decided to take it down a notch. Especially with my client work expanding and my kids home a bunch over the summer…it was time to set some boundaries. Was it easy? Oh hell no. Responding to an email at 8pm on a Sunday was something I would usually do without a second thought. But, over time, it’s gotten easier, and so has my ability to breathe.
Wanna know what happened?
Nothing. Noone was pissed off, noone said they didn’t want to work with me anymore, and the work has kept coming (knock on wood).
So, as hard as it might be, consider this your permission slip to set those boundaries. Whether it’s with social media, your to-do list, or your entire biz. Because this is part of why we’re doing this in the first place, right?
To make it work for us.
See ya on the gram!
