My “So That” Trick for Instagram
My dentist is going to love this story.
Whenever I tell my kids to brush their teeth and they start complaining about it and asking “whyyyyyyy??” I know exactly what to say.
There might have been a time when the old-school parenting response “because I said so” would've worked. That time is not now 😂.
But if I remind them that brushing their teeth keeps them clean and healthy so that they don't get cavities (and all the stuff that goes along with a cavity) they tend to get on board.
Basically, I can't just tell them what to do. I have to explain why brushing their teeth is important. In other words, what will it do for them?
And, believe it or not, this is an issue that came up a lot during my Instagram audits last week!
So many business owners focus on what they do and forget to talk about why their people should care.
I can tell my audience that I create content over and over again, but it I don't explain to them how they'll benefit from the content I create, I'm not going to get very far.
This is a key part of your messaging, and it's what will build authority, establish trust, and make your audience feel understood.
If you're struggling to figure out the benefits of your services, try the “so that” trick: I create Instagram content for your business so that you get better engagement, more leads, more email subscribers, and more sales.
Amazing, right? But you don't have to stop there…
My audience wants engagement, leads, subscribers, and sales so that they can earn the money they want in their business, outsource busywork, and spend more time with their kids at their cottage this summer.
I'm linking my services with the thing that they really want - more time, more money, and less stress.
That's why they should care about what I do. That's why it will be a worthwhile investment for their business. And speaking directly to the “so thats” in my Instagram bio and content is what will create engagement and excitement for my account.
I have such a blast when I audit an account, and I feel really excited about the shifts participants see in their Instagram and their business as a result of the changes they make.
I'm always here for any questions you have - messaging, content, bios - slide into my DMs or hit reply!
See you on the 'gram,
Sarah
