Personality in content
You know when you actually make yourself real food for lunch, sit down to eat it, and then…it sucks?
It's bland, it's boring, and it feels like a chore to eat it. Sure, it fills you up, but it really isn't that enjoyable.
This is exactly what content feels like when you leave out one of the main ingredients:
YOUR PERSONALITY!
Ok, maybe that was a bit cheesy, but it's true.
So many people treat their content creation like they're preparing for a business presentation. It's really common to feel like you have to "put on a professional tone", “give value”, and “act like a real business owner” when you show up online.
But creating from this place results in content that's rigid, robotic, and a bit cold. It's definitely not giving your audience the warm and fuzzies.
So what I always ask is, “what do you REALLY want to say?”
Because if the goal is to connect with your audience on Instagram, person to person, you have to…be personable.
How, you ask?
Well, what do you say when you talk about your business with your friend over a glass of wine? When you're having a really good conversation with your ideal client that became a bestie? When you're sharing a big win with your partner at the end of a long week?
Think about that - the words you use, the way you talk about your business, and the way it feels.
Sure, you might have to finesse it a bit to align with your strategy. But starting from that place of real connection is what's going to make your content engaging.
Because when your audience can get a sense of who you are - what you care about, how you approach your work, how you treat people, and what makes you different from your competitors - they will actually learn more, get more inspired, and feel more entertained.
You absolutely can act like a real business owner, create really valuable content, and be a professional without sounding like a PowerPoint presentation. And even better, when you show up as yourself in your content, you start connecting with people who actually want to buy your products and services.
Oh, and one last thing. Doing it this way makes content creation 👏so 👏much 👏more 👏fun.
Can't wait to see what you create!
