ONE YEAR YAYYY
You don’t become an entrepreneur by accident.
If you asked me 3 years ago if I’d ever start my own business and leave my cushy corporate job I would have burst into laughter. I had a reliable salary, benefits, and 4 small children - who would be bananas enough to do that?
Well, apparently I AM THAT BANANAS because I have officially been in business FULL TIME for ONE year!!! I mean, what?!?!?!
🍾 POP THE BUBBLY AND CUE THE CONFETTI 🍾
So, in honour of this momentous occasion, I've compiled a list of Dos and Don'ts from my first year. If you're just starting out, or on the fence about going full-time in your biz, here's what I want you to know.
DO:
Find your people. Join the memberships, get social on socials, hit up some networking events. It might take some time to find the ones you really click with, but when you do, they'll be indispensible.
Lean on your people. Set up co-working dates, collaborate with them, and get nitty gritty with them. These aren't just casual friends, these are your business besties. And the results that come out of these relationships are incredible: community, clarity, cross-promotion, and of course, friendship.
Say yes more than no. Try different projects, different types of clients, and different events. Be open to what you've never done before, because it might end up being your thing.
DON'T:
Compare. Your journey is your own. Looking at someone else's day 657 while you're on day 18 isn't going to help you move forward.
Over-commit. Even though I'm encouraging you to say yes more than no, always check your yeses. Do they match your goals? Do they fit with the lifestyle you're trying to create? Burned out business owner? We don't know her.
Underestimate. Remember when I said that you don't become an entrepreneur by accident? I meant it. I know you've got what it takes to do this because you've decided to do it.
To be totally transparent, it hasn't all been sunshine and roses. Late nights, imposter syndrome, juggling family life with biz life, and taking scary action have all been part of the process.
But has it been worth it?
Absofrickenlutely.
Thank you SO MUCH for being here, and I can't wait to see what this next year brings!
And if you ever want to chat about the transition from corporate to entrepreneurship, I'm IN!
Lots of love,
Sarah
