Content is Intimate

A content creation relationship is akin to a marriage. Stick with me.

As a professional writer who creates content for small businesses, I’m hyper-sensitive to the intimacy of a content relationship.

Once a client has made the decision to enter into a business relationship with me, I spend my initial time getting to know that client and their business. Courting, if you will. It’s crucial that I understand who they are and what their goals are. My approach is very intentional, as I commit to a deep understanding of those goals and how we can best work together.

This committed relationship, like any other, is founded and maintained on the following 5 principles:

Validation:

We all just want to be understood. You, me, your audience. Content is most powerful when everyone is heard.

Communication:

And lots of it! Open and honest feedback is key to a content relationship that is easy, fluid, and exciting. Communication nurtures collaboration.

Respect:

Mutual respect allows everything else in a relationship to flourish. Respect for boundaries, time, passions, opinions, feelings – it’s all important.

Vulnerability:

Sometimes we have to get comfortable being uncomfortable. Both of us. No risk, no reward.

Trust:

Trust can be hard for some people. As long as you are open to it, it will come. Trust is built, and I commit to building and maintaining it with my clients.

Honouring all 5 principles of a relationship will not only create a mutually beneficial partnership, but it’s paramount in nurturing the relationship, growing your content reach, strengthening your marketing funnel, increasing your engagement, and freeing up your time to do other valuable things.

While I might not be able to finish your sentences, I will certainly learn to adopt your voice and your business’ voice. I appreciate and respect that you are married to your content – it’s a piece of you!

While the comparison is simply analogous, it’s important that any content relationship be taken seriously and entered into with care. Absent this commitment, content is simply ineffective and powerless.
I know you believe in your business, I believe in your business, and I believe your content needs to celebrate your business!

Let’s get married!!

Take the leap! Reach out today for your content needs!
